Dispatchable Electricity & Heat
Engine power plants play an essential role in balancing electricity supply and demand and in linking different energy carriers and networks. As combined-heat-and-power plants, they provide efficient electricity and heat in a wide range of applications.
EUGINE promotes a properly functioning energy system that helps the EU achieve its energy and climate objectives, including a reliable, cost-efficient and sustainable power system and an energy transition at minimum cost.
A decarbonised energy system dominated by variable renewables will require so-called “dispatchable” back-up that can be activated whenever necessary. Through their very quick reaction times and their fuel flexibility, engine power plants provide power and heat whenever needed. To ensure the necessary dispatchable capacity is available in the future energy system, flexibility will need to be adequately rewarded through energy markets.
