Joint letter to VP Timmermans on power-to-X: “A key to a climate-neutral Europe by 2050”
We all agree – there is no silver bullet. Instead, a wide range of technologies and solutions are necessary to reach climate neutrality. Particularly, we will not be able to reach this goal, if renewable energy is only carried via electrons. Therefore, a stronger emphasis needs to be put on sector coupling and integration. Hence, […]

EUGINE position on LFSM-O requirements defined at national level
The Commission regulation (EU) 2016/631 of 14 April 2016 establishing a network code on requirements for grid connection of generators defines a ‘limited frequency sensitive mode at overfrequency’ or ‘LFSM-O’ as “a power-generating module or HVDC system operating mode which will result in active power output reduction in response to a change in system frequency […]

EUGINE co-signs the “Hydrogen Initiative” of the Austrian Presidency of the Council
Due to the ongoing energy transition, increasing shares of variable renewable energy sources (V-RES) only producing electricity when the sun is shining or the wind is blowing are being introduced into the energy mix. This variability generates an increasing challenge: how to balance tomorrow’s energy system in a secure, cost-efficient and sustainable way. Power-to-Gas in […]

Electricity Market Design – Any GHG threshold requires an appropriate calculation methodology
In view of the trilogue on the Electricity Market Design, COGEN Europe, EUGINE and EUTurbines would like to strongly emphasise that the simple reference to a limit value like the 550g CO2/kWh – or its possible alternatives – is not sufficient: Without defining a harmonised calculation methodology, the new provision risks leading to a patchwork […]

EUGINE contribution to the EU 2050 decarbonisation strategy
EUGINE contributed to the European Commission’s consultation on its long-term decarbonisation strategy, by especially highlighting: gas engines’ applications reducing GHG emissions: gas engines for cogeneration may reach 95% energy efficiency and thus cut primary energy consumption & emissions. Gas engines for peaking plants may ensure a stable energy supply when there is no sun & […]

EUGINE contributes to the consultation on ETS Reform
EUGINE strongly supports the principle of a market-based mechanism aiming at progressively decarbonising the EU economy. However, the EU ETS Directive should strongly contribute to the modernisation of the EU power system. It should take into account the major changes which have been occurring in the last few years, including the remarkable development of intermittent […]

EUGINE contributes to the CEN SFGas GQS Simple Scenario Assessment
Power plants using reciprocating gas engines are important “end users” of the gas grid. The gas quality is of essential importance for the safety, environmental performance and efficiency of these gas engine power plants. Against this background, EUGINE contributed to the work undertaken by the CEN SFGas WG “Pre-normative Study of H-Gas Quality Parameters” and […]
